German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.

If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.

About Jasmine

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Adoption Fee: $350
  • Species: Dog
  • Current Age: 10 Years 3 Months (best estimate)

Jasmine is a gorgeous, very sweet, approx 2 y.o. girl who up until rescue lived as a stray on the reservation. Reservation dogs lead a very hard life with no shelter, little food, and no vet care. Many of them die young due to accidents, deprivation, and/or sickness among other causes. We are so glad that we were able to help this adorable girl!

Jasmine was found this summer on a SD reservation, hungry, thirsty, overheated, full of ticks and fleas, and heavily pregnant. Jasmine safely delivered her puppies who were born in rescue, with us. Jasmine is now looking for her furever home.

Life on the reservation can be very tough. Jasmine arrived into rescue with one eye damaged beyond repair. Our vet has evaluated her and she appears to be in no pain or discomfort from it, in fact, it seems she may be able to see some shadows out of it, so removal was not recommended. Despite any hardships that she may have experienced prior to rescue, Jasmine is a very happy, joyful puppy, full of life and enthusiasm.

Jasmine loves to follow her humans arounds, she is wonderful with the cats in her foster home, and she gets along great with other dogs. She is a very sweet, gentle girl who loves to go for car rides, walks, and other outings, yet she is also happy relaxing at home. She has a wonderfully balanced temperament. She loves treats, takes them very gently. Loves to gnaw on her Nylabones. She is potty-trained, crated-trained, gentle and well-behaved. She is a delight to have around!

Jasmine is a lovely, very mellow, sweet, petite girl who steals the hearts of all those who meet her. She will make a fantastic addition to just about any household and will be the pride and Joy of a very lucky adopter!
