German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.

If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. When Ziva arrived into rescue, little did we know that she was pregnant. The pups were born 3-14-17 and they became our "Saint Patrick's Litter". They have all been adopted, and now it's Ziva's turn :). We are glad that Ziva came into rescue when she did. Reservation dogs lead a very hard life, with no shelter, little food, and no vet care. Many of them die on the Reservation due to accidents, deprivation, and/or sickness among other causes. We are so glad that we were able to offer Ziva a chance at a better life!

Ziva is a gorgeous youngster! She is fun, lovable, full of energy and loves to play. She is house-trained, crate-trained, and knows her basic commands: "sit", "down", "off", "kennel", and she comes when called. She even kennels herself when she notices her humans getting ready to leave. She is very smart!!!! Ziva is a typical GSD, who loves being with her humans. She enjoys going for walks, she does pretty well on a leash. She also loves to play around in the backyard with her humans and the other dogs. She likes to chase the squirrels, birds and bunnies out of the yard so we would strongly prefer that she have a 6ft fence. Ziva is very friendly and loves other dogs. She will bark at new dogs to let them know she is there and wants to play. We are working with her on not being so vocal when she wants to greet other dogs :). She does well with big and small dogs.

Ziva loves kids. She is right by her foster parents' side to help"wake" the kids up in the morning and put them to bed at night. And she is a lover, who loves belly rubs and lots of kisses. She is a great helper, and a velcro pup who rarely leaves her foster parents' side! She is such a sweet girl. She is treat and praise-motivated. She loves to chew on bones and play with her ball. She makes for a great snuggle buddy and she will be a fabulous companion and family pet for a very lucky, active family!

Like all German Shepherd and German Shepherd mix puppies, Ziva will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization, in order to become a well-balanced, well-behaved dog.

Reminder: Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills.
