German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.

If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.

About Flynn *Miracle Dog*

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Adoption Fee: $250
  • Species: Dog
  • Current Age: 14 Years 3 Months (best estimate)

Flynn is a very sweet young senior, who was discarded at a dog park, tied to a tree for 4 hours in 100 degree weather until animal control was able to collect him. He landed in an overcrowded kill shelter, skin and bones, with severe fur loss, and extremely scared, all of which unfortunately made him unadoptable to the public, and put him on the euthanasia list. Flynn arrived into rescue looking half-starved, sick with kennel cough, with an infected wound, a slight limp, and with significant skin loss. He has since been treated and is doing well, he is no longer scared and confused, and this super sweet boy has been thriving in his foster home.

After several few weeks in a loving foster home, sweet Flynn is loving life, enjoys treats, giving his fosters kisses, fetching his ball, and romping around with the younger dog in the household.

Flynn is a wonderful boy with lots of sweet personality. He is starting to put on weight. He is very ball driven and likes to play with other friendly, easy-going dogs (males & females). Loves to play in the backyard, fetch, and chase with the other dogs. Loves to go for walks. He has a very nice energy level: he is active, fun, and ready to go, but not hyper. He is cheerful and friendly on walks, loves too meet new people. He is affectionate and likes to lean against you for pets.

Flynn is a remarkable boy who will make a enviable companion, for a very lucky adopter!

Please review the information in the "About Us", "Important Considerations" and "Adopt" sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.
