German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills.These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.

Meet Noah is an adorable sable German Shepherd puppy, who has already been through a lot in his short life. This poor sweetheart was dumped sick at the shelter at about 4 months old. He tested positive for Parvo and needed rescue before 6pm to avoid being euthanized. We were able to rescue and treat him. However, as soon as he arrived in his foster home, we found a large growth on his right upper gum. It was biopsied and sadly he was been diagnosed with papillary squamous cell carcinoma, which requires aggressive surgical removal (time is of the essence with this type of cancer, but prognosis is good right with full removal). Noah underwent staging of his tumor (x-rays, aspirate from his lymph nodes) and everything looked good and showed that the tumor had not metastasized. The CT scan prior to surgery looked great too, surgery went great, the tumor was removed with good margins, and he has recovered very well. Several of his lymph nodes were removed as a precaution (and biopsies were done), as well as a biopsy from his jaw bone and they all came back normal. Noah is available for adoption with a good prognosis. As is the normal vet recommendation with this type of diagnosis, Noah will need the site on his gum where the tumor was removed monitored every 1-3 months the 1st year, then every 6 months; chest x-rays every 3 months the first year, then every 6 months after that.
Noah is a typical GSD puppy: sweet, energetic, and a little bit stubborn and sassy at times! However (like any good GSD pup), he is also very smart and eager to please, and thrives with structure and routine! Noah is going through is teething/mouthing stage and will need plenty of chew toys and patient humans to teach him which items are appropriate to chew on. He is very enthusiastic and LOVES to play with other dogs nonstop, and will need a very playful, tolerant dog buddy, that can keep up with him! This adorable pup will need an active, experienced owner who will continue to work on his socialization and training. He is going to be an amazing pup!
While adorable, GSD puppies require lots of patience, positive reinforcement and redirection to channel their energy in appropriate ways. Like all German Shepherd puppies, Noah will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization, in order to become a well-balanced, well-behaved dog.
Noah’s adoption fee is $425, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (treated if positive), and microchipped.
