German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.
If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.
About Rose Peach
Status: Adopted!
Adoption Fee: $350
Species: Dog
Current Size: 53 Pounds
Current Age: 5 Years 10 Months (best estimate)
Rose Peach was found in Spencer, OK. She was missing her back leg due to a trap and had a severely damaged arm that we learned that she had been shot. We are extremely grateful for everyone who rallied to help us during her rescue. Rose Peach is the definition of truly bulletproof. She has grit, a survivor that has overcome all the odds against her. Rose Peach is strong but yet so gentle. Rose Peach has now completed several months of range of motion exercises at home, as well as Physical Therapy (electrostimulation, and laser therapy), and is doing great! She walks, runs, and uses all legs, which seems nothing short of a miracle, especially considering the shape she arrived in.
Rose Peach is smart, so smart does amazing at puzzles and finding treats in her snuffle mat. Rose Peach knows how to sit and shake. She’s potty trained. Our girl doesn’t bark, she is pretty low key but wants to gently play with her foster siblings. She loves her bed and sleeping next to foster mom. She absolutely loves car rides. She is always smiling and loves to be cuddled. She is an amazing dog. She has been a joy to care for and will be one of the hardest goodbyes for her foster parents! There was so much love that went into Rose. In fact, her foster mom would LOVE to also be "adopted" by Rose Peach's new family so she can stay in touch and continue to see her blossom!
The adoption fee for Rose Peach is $350, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped.
Like any of our dogs, Rose Peach would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that her breed needs. Because of that, Estelle’s ideal owners will have prior GSD, or other herding breed experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.
Please review the information in the "About Us", "Important Considerations" and "Adopt" sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.
