German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.
If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.
About Daisy
Status: Adopted!
Adoption Fee: $350
Species: Dog
Current Size: 78 Pounds
Current Age: 13 Years 5 Months (best estimate)
Daisy is a very sweet, stunning, approx 5-6 year-old girl. This gorgeous girl appears to have been bred nonstop during the first part of her life, before being cruelly discarded when she was no longer of use to her breeder. Poor Daisy got picked up as a stray and landed in a high-kill shelter in MO that euthanizes using the inhumane heartsick method. No one came for her, and she found herself in big danger.
We rushed to her rescue and Daisy is now thriving in a loving foster home. Daisy is a beautiful, lovable, sweet girl who does well with people and with other dogs.
Daisy loves car rides. She likes going for walks but is learning how to walk on a leash, and she will need for her adopter to continue her leash training. Daisy knows sit and is currently working on her other basic commands, like come and stay. She is currently being crate-trained. Daisy doesn't play with toys much yet but she enjoys playing with other dogs and playfully chasing them around the yard. She is a little shy at first but she warms up quickly, and she is a very loving girl. Daisy loves to cuddle and give kisses!
