German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.
If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.
About Ruby
Status: Adopted!
Adoption Fee: $350
Species: Dog
Current Age: 10 Years 4 Months (best estimate)
Ruby is a gorgeous, super sweet girl who found herself in big danger when she landed at a high kill shelter that uses the inhumane heartstick method. We quickly pulled her out and brought her into rescue with us. She is loving life in her awesome foster home and she is now ready to find a great furever home of her own!
Ruby, an approx 2 y.o. playful girl, who absolutely adores people. Ruby loves to be on the go, running in the backyard, going for walks, playing, and getting lots of love and attention. In fact, Ruby thinks that she is a lapdog :).
This girl is truly adorable and just a ham! She loves to get treats. She is all puppy and is full of enthusiasm and excitement! Ruby appears to do fine with cats. She gets along great with most dogs. She absolutely loves to play with dogs, but would do better with more mellow, submissive dogs who will be tolerant of her enthusiastic play style.
A 6ft fence or a vigilant owner are strongly recommended, as this adorable young athlete could easily clear a shorter fence. This cutie is sweet and gentle, but is currently learning not to jump up, so supervision around younger kids/frail adults that could be knocked over is also recommended.
Ruby is a fabulous girl, perfect for an active family looking for a fun, super friendly and loving addition.
Please review the information in the "About Us", "Important Considerations" and "Adopt" sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.
