German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.

If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.

About Hannah *Youth*

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Adoption Fee: $275
  • Species: Dog
  • Current Age: 8 Years 9 Months (best estimate)
  • Fence Required: Yes(6 foot)

Hannah is a young, 1.5 y.o. adorable girl who found herself in need of rescue when her owner became too sick to take care of her. She is petite-sized, cute as can be, and playful! However, Hannah settles down nicely after she's had her exercise.

Hannah is very smart, learns quickly, and is treat-motivated. She's a very smart cookie! Hannah is good with people and other dogs, although, like many dogs, she can be a little bit reactive on a leash, but has already shown big improvement :). She always seems to do great around kids at events.

Hannah is an enthusiastic player! Because of that. Hannah would do better around playful, easy-going dogs who don't mind other dogs in their face, and who enjoy a hands-on, enthusiastic playstyle :). Hannah is sweet, lovable, fun, and will make a great family pet for a lucky active family. Hannah is a sweet, lovable cutie! She loves chew toys. And she also loves following her people and other household dogs around like a little shadow!

Like all German Shepherd puppies and youngsters, Hannah will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization, in order to become a well-balanced, well-behaved dog.
