Lola needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping her get a new start?

German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.

If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.

About Lola

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Adoption Fee: $350
  • Species: Dog
  • Current Age: 8 Years 8 Months (best estimate)
  • Fence Required: Yes(6 foot)

Lola is a young, beautiful, sweet girl who loves nothing more than being around her humans.  Lola is a super fun, energetic girl, who loves to be the center of attention. And she is also very affectionate and a huge fan of belly rubs and snuggles! Lola does well with other dogs with slow introductions. She absolutely loves to run around and play in the backyard with the other household dog. And she is great with people.

Lola is approx 1.5 y.o. She is very athletic and jumps up very high, even when she plays and runs. Because of that, we would strongly prefer a 6ft fence in her forever home. Lola has strong prey drive and would do best in a home without cats or other small animals. Lola is crate-trained and house-trained.  She is still learning what toys are, and which items are ok to play with.  She listens well and is eager to please. Lola is a very sweet, friendly girl. She does well with other dogs with slow introductions. She is currently working on her leash skills, and on not being as reactive (barky) to strange dogs/animals, and she is doing great! She is an awesome running buddy. And she is a fabulous GSD youngster, smart, full of energy and playfulness. She would be an excellent addition to an active household.

Like all German Shepherd Dogs and other herding breed mixes that we have in rescue, Lola will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization, in order to become a well-balanced, well-behaved dog.

Reminder: Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills.

Please review the information in the "About Us", "Important Considerations" and "Adopt" sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.
