German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.

If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.

About Trinity. New name: Victoria

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Adoption Fee: $275
  • Species: Dog
  • Current Age: 8 Years 1 Month (best estimate)

Trinity is an adorable young girl who recently came into rescue from TX with her 7 adorable puppies. Trinity arrived extremely emaciated, truly skin and bones, and it took lots of TLC and nourishing snacks and extra meals to help her gain a healthy weight. We are so glad that we were able to bring Trinity and her puppies to safety, so that they can now experience life as beloved family pets.

Trinity is a very sweet girl. We appears to be approx 1 y.o., and a tri-color Border Collie. She can be a little shy at first, but she warms up quickly. She loves people and attention. She does fine with other dogs with slow introductions, and prefers mellow, low-key dogs. She does fine with mellow cats that are used to dogs and that don't run, as she has strong prey drive, and would chase cats that run.

Trinity is a lovely girl, who she seems to have had a rough beginning in life. She is afraid of loud voices (she thinks she''s in trouble and cowers), but she is becoming more confident and secure every day, as she realizes that she's safe and loved. She loves sleeping on the couch with you when you're reading or watching tv.  She loves sleeping on your bed if you will let her, but she will also sleep in her crate.  She is crate-trained and potty-trained.  She's extremely sweet and loyal, and a very lovable dog.

Trinity would do great with an active adopter who will provide plenty of exercise and activity. She might be able to clear a 4ft fence in pursuit of a critter, so we would prefer a 6ft fence, or a vigilant owner if the fence is lower than 6ft.
Trinity will need an active home able to provide daily walks in addition to backyard playtime, outings for socialization, and the usual training that youngsters require.

Trinity is looking for a patient forever pet parent who will not rush her and who will allow her time to adjust to her new home. Like all of our dogs, Trinity will also need structure, leadership, consistency, love, and plenty of exercise and socialization. Trinity's ideal home will have herding breed experience &/or experience with shy/fearful dogs.  Our dogs make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.

Reminder: Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills.

Please review the information in the "About Us", "Important Considerations" and "Adopt" sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.
